Dr. Sheela Sinharoy is an Assistant Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health. She received dual BA degrees in Sociology and Latin American Studies from Penn State University, an MPH from the Maternal and Child Health department at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, and a PhD in Nutrition and Health Sciences from Emory University. Prior to her PhD, she spent over 10 years working in program implementation, including five years working on humanitarian aid programs in Bangladesh.
Dr. Sinharoy’s research focuses on the nutrition outcomes of environmental health interventions, including in water, sanitation, and hygiene projects. She also studies gender and social inclusion as cross-cutting issues. Her work has a strong focus on inter-disciplinary and multi-sectoral approaches, program evaluation, and implementation science, to identify “what works” to improve program effectiveness. Methodologically, she is trained in both quantitative and qualitative methods. Dr. Sinharoy’s research spans across Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific.
